2nd Line Infrastructure Support Technician – Salary c£25,000-£27,000 DOE plus excellent benefits

Based: Gloucestershire

Our Client are a privately owned logistics company who service an impressive portfolio of companies throughout the UK; helping them deliver customer excellence to their customers. They pride themselves on being innovative and proactive, providing cost effective, resourceful and sustainable logistics operations.

The success of their operations depends upon reliable IT services, including networks, applications, handheld devices and similar. We are searching for an experienced and professional 2nd line infrastructure support technician to work alongside the Service Delivery Manager ensuring seamless IT service for all internal and external customers.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and develop network and server infrastructure to deliver high quality /cost effective service
  • Produce and maintain detailed site-specific documentation describing the IT Infrastructure
  • Be a 2nd line escalation point for all difficult or unresolved IT infrastructure problems
  • Accurately log and record all interactions and resolutions using their helpdesk software
  • Assist the support team, provide help and advice on day-to-day problems/developing technical skills
  • During busy times/periods of holiday/illness cover assist with phone calls and providing IT support
  • Provision of out-of-hours IT Support cover on a rotational basis
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with General Managers and Operations Managers to achieve the business’ goals and ensure IT services provided are correct and fit for purpose
  • Attend weekly IT team meetings and provide technical updates to the rest of the support team
  • Deputise for the IT Service Manager when necessary
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in an IT related discipline, with Microsoft qualifications
  • VMware/ESX platforms support, maintenance and implementation
  • Windows Server Support and maintenance
  • Office 365 and Exchange hybrid environment
  • Monitoring technologies and best practices
  • Networking technologies, switches, fibre and multi-site infrastructures
  • Solid desktop and laptop support skills and the ability to mentor others in the team
  • Strong and demonstrable troubleshooting skills and a keen eye for detail
  • Able to work on own initiative and be part of a larger team of differing skills
  • Experience working in a helpdesk environment as a 3rd line escalation point
  • Microsoft/VMware/Networking accreditations
  • ITIL knowledge strongly desirable
  • Previous experience supporting stock/warehouse/transport management systems would be ideal
  • Any knowledge of Ortec, JDA (RedPrairie) or similar would be ideal although non-essential
  • Understanding of the following would be a bonus: Remote connections, SQL, Borland, Visual Basic, C#
